"Eugen Doga" International Airport - Chisinau expands: 700 million lei project from own revenues publicly presented

Chisinau, August 4, 2025 - "Eugen Doga" International Airport - Chisinau is entering a major development stage. The passenger terminal expansion project, worth over 700 million lei, will be fully financed from the airport's own revenues. The works will begin this year, immediately after the designation, through a public tender, of the construction company, and completion is planned for the end of next year.

The project was presented today, August 4, 2025, during a public conference organized by "Eugen Doga" International Airport - Chisinau, the founder of the Public Property Agency (APP) and the Organization for Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Construction and Housing (OATUCL).

“We start from the need to expand, to invest in infrastructure, because we have reached records in the number of passengers. But ultimately, this project is an investment in the experience of our passengers. The expansion will reduce congestion and bring better conditions, without affecting the daily activity of the airport,” said Sergiu Spoială, the interim administrator of the “Eugen Doga” International Airport – Chișinău.

The project is developed to the airport’s requirements by OATUCL and provides for the reorganization of the check-in and baggage areas, the construction of new extensions for the departure areas and the integration of modern technologies such as FAST TRACK (for a fast and predictable flow), ABC gates (automated passport control) and intelligent systems with self-service elements in baggage processing. The waiting areas and the business lounge will also be expanded, and additional facilities such as a covered terrace and passenger showers will be introduced.

"We designed this project so that in the end we get not only more space, but also optimization of passenger flows. We put great emphasis and integrate modern technologies so that each stage of the journey is faster and simpler," explained Nicolae Lupușor, director of OATUCL.

According to APP, the financial results obtained by the airport in recent years are the basis of this investment. In 2022, revenues were 2.6 million lei, in 2023 they increased over 80 times, reaching 211 million lei, and in 2024 they rose to 337 million lei, a record increase over all the years of the company's activity.

"These results clearly show what transparent and responsible management can do. We are satisfied with the activity of the enterprise and the results obtained, it is one of the most profitable among state-owned companies. Importantly, in order to strengthen these results, we launched a public competition at the enterprise aimed at establishing a long-term manager and ending the temporary administrators," said Valerian Bobu, Deputy General Director of APP.

The public tender for the designation of the construction company will be launched shortly. Immediately after the designation of the winner, the works will begin. By the end of next year, the "Eugen Doga" International Airport - Chisinau will have a modernized terminal, with an expanded capacity and better services for passengers.

The founder and management of the Airport reaffirm their commitment to transparency. We will constantly inform about each stage of this project of modernization and development of the airport.
